We know what Wondra is. We know who makes it (General Mills' Betty Crocker's Gold Medal brand). We know it comes in a 2-pound box or a 13.5-ounce canister. What we don’t know is where specifically in Florida you can find it.

It's not even that consistently available online. It is not currently available at Netgrocer. It is not available at Whole Foods and probably not at most natural foods stores. The grocery delivery services of Safeway, Vons, and Peapod do carry the canister, although that may vary from location to location.

Fortunately, there is a General Mills Product Locator, which lets you track down sources within 20 to 50 miles of your home. You can type Wondra in the Select by Text Search box, or you can select "Flour" in the Select By Category pull-down menu, and then by "Wondra" in the Select A Product pull-down menu. For us, there are 10 stores within 20 miles that carry the canister. There are none within 50 miles that carry the box.

So even if you can find it, you may have trouble finding enough for breadmaking purposes, or enough at a reasonable price. We are actually a little intrigued that you want to use Wondra for baking bread, as it is at the opposite end of the protein spectrum from bread flour. Generally it is used in small quantity for its quick-mixing attributes in the production of gravies and sauces without lumps, the production of tender pancakes, waffles, popovers, and biscuits, and for breading foods that are to be fried. Assembling large quantities of low-protein flour for baking bread is at least unusual, but then again, perhaps – almost certainly – your bread is extra special.
