A pig in a blanket can be anything you want, as long as it has a pork thing wrapped up in something else edible. A quick survey of the Ochef staff found unanimous agreement on the sausage link wrapped in biscuit dough, but we have found recipes that use hot dogs, Vienna sausages, kielbasa, and cocktail sausages in croissant dough, pancakes, pie dough, etc., etc.

We have not come across a cabbage blanket (we have not looked very hard), and it sounds like a regional dish to us. But there’s no reason a sausage can’t be wrapped in cabbage. Indeed, one colleague recalls that as something her Polish step-grandmother used to make, with an unpronounceable, unspellable name like Gwumkie, and which we assume means pig in a blanket in Polish.
