Q. I plan to make dinner for my girlfriend and me on Valentine's Day. She loves cheesecake, so I would like to make her a meal that would best suit cheesecake as a dessert. Neither of us like seafood, so a fish dinner would not be wise.
A. Ah, we are of the school that cheesecake goes with anything, but will try to exercise a little restraint on your behalf. We assume you are looking for a meal that's on the light side so that you have some room for the cheesecake. Also, since Valentine's Day falls on a weeknight this year, most people need a menu that's fairly simple to prepare.
For the main course, you might like a veal piccata or chicken piccata, grilled or broiled lamb chops, or chicken breasts sautéed simply and served with a reduction of wine and herbs. Steamed asparagus or a fresh salad would be a good complement to any of those choices. Some good bread or wild rice would round out the meal.
