We have always thought it appropriate to not serve coffee and tea to one-year-olds. Indeed, we seldom serve coffee to three-year-olds, but that's just us.

Will your children's playmates' parents be satisfied with lemonade, soft drinks, and snow cones, you mean? You are a better judge of your friends and acquaintances, but we have never gone to a children's birthday party expecting a separate adult's menu. Putting on a theme party for toddlers is enough work without catering to the whims of all their over-caffeinated parents. If, however, you have the energy to provide something for the grown-ups - a non-sweet drink, perhaps - serve it in a colorful plastic cup and don't worry about minor diversions from your clever theme.
