Comments: We have ground enough fingertips with our nutmeg in years gone by that we are a little skittish of using nutmeg. Of course, there are nutmeg mills on the market, and we have finally stumbled on this one, which has two attributes that we love.

First, it is gorgeous! Acrylic and stainless steel, it stores nutmegs on one side and grinds them on the other. Second, it grinds them to powder, generating a superfine dust so much finer than any rasp or finger-endangering grater we have used.

Our one issue with the grater is that it is not quick. In producing such fine nutmeg powder, it takes quite a few turns of the crank. It would take a minute or more to generate a half-teaspoon of ground nutmeg. But nutmeg is seldom used in high volume, so it probably won't be a problem for most people. We are not entirely sure what a professional nutmeg mill is, but we think many professional kitchens would be a little put off by the pace of the mill.

The biggest challenge right now may be tracking it down. It is not available at Amazon.com. It is not even available on the manufacturer's British website. It is narrowly available online, and is certain to be found here and there in kitchen stores. Keep looking, you may find it. Freshly ground nutmeg is so much better than preground (old) nutmeg. You absolutely will notice a difference.
