A pepita is a Mexican preparation for pumpkin seeds. They can be hulled or not, roasted or not, and salted or not. They are often eaten as a snack, are sometimes ground to thicken green pipián sauces, or can be sprinkled on dishes as a garnish. Pepitas are available in some supermarkets, health-food stores, and of course Mexican markets. How widely available they are in South Africa is an intriguing question - happy hunting!
