Comments: We have knives coming out our ears – that goes without saying. But if you're just starting out or want to keep a modest number of knives on hand, everyone will always tell you to have three knives in your collection: a chef's knife, a paring knife, and whoops!, well, people don't always agree on the third knife. A serrated bread knife is often at the top of the list. But a slicing knife or utility knife is right up there, too.

We think this slicer/utility knife would make a great candidate for your third knife or fourth knife (if you're just out of control). It goes by the catchy name of Kitchen Knife and slices, chops, dices, carves – it does a bit of everything. The blade, bolster, and tang forged out of a single piece of high carbon stainless steel. The synthetic handle has three rivets for strength and durability. The blade is extremely sharp, holds its edge (with reasonable care), and can be sharpened again and again.

We have seen it described as anywhere between a 6-inch knife and an 8-inch knife. The blade is actually 16 centimeters, or 6.3 inches long, but no matter, as long as you find Model 1638, you'll have the right thing. The packaging says it's dishwasher-safe, which is technically true, but you know better….
